White mulberry leaf extract, i.e. extract from a small leafy tree coming from south-east Asia, used for ages, especially in traditional Chinese medicine in order to decrease high cholesterol level and blood pressure.
The presence of an alkaloid 1.5-dideoxy-1.5-imino-D-glucitol is important, as it slows down the breakdown of complex sugars contained in food to simple sugars, which effectively leads to post-prandial hyperglycemia with lower value. Quercetin, on the other hand, inhibits the synthesis of sorbitol from the excess of glucose, which prevents problems with the excretory and nervous systems.
The compounds contained in the leaves of white mulberry also demonstrate antioxidant properties, thanks to which they inhibit the oxidation of LDL, i.e. “bad” cholesterol and consequently - they prevent the occurrence of atherosclerosis. The presence of flavonoids, on the other hand, ensures antiviral and antibacterial effect. Research also proved that they may protect the organism from the development of cancer.
