Plantago psyllium is a plant of Mediterranean climate. Processed seed husks are a rich source of dietary fibre (hemicellulose), successfully used in the prevention of gastrointestinal diseases (filling the stomach for a longer period of time, improving bowel motility, enhancing the development of bacterial flora), the circulatory system (inhibition of atherosclerosis), reduction of the risk of insulin resistance by lowering the glycemic index after meals. Processed seed husks of plantago psyllium are used as components of carbohydrate-protein, protein supplements and MRP-type meals.
