Cobalt amino acid chelate is an organic chemical compound formed by combining two amino acid molecules with a cobalt molecule. The central ion, in this case cobalt, is surrounded by the ligand which is attached to it via coordinate bonds Thanks to this structure, the compound is extremely stable and resistant to acidic and alkaline conditions. It is characterised by very high bioavailability and absorption.
The most important role of cobalt in the body is to stimulate the formation of erythropoietin which is responsible for red blood cell production. Scientists suggest that the mineral may have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Cobalt amino acid chelate is rarely used in supplementation and can be found in e.g. supplements targeted at enhancing muscle tissue growth and improving exercise capacity.
