Blackthorn (Prunus spinosa) European plant, occurring in Poland on the edge of forests (planted or workarounds in the home as a hedge). The raw food and medicinal material is a fruit of blackthorn (Fructus Pruni spinosae), medicinal is its inflorescence (Flos Pruni spinosae). Both flowers and fruits contain a lot of biologically active compounds. Flowers include, among others, sugars, flavonoids, tannins, Cyanogenic glycosides, minerals; fruits: amygdalin, anthocyanins, sugars, tannins, glycoside, organic acids, pectin, minerals and vitamins (C and provitamin A). Preparations containing blackthorn flowers and its fruits are a diuretic and diaphoretic, laxative, antitoxic and anti-inflammatory (especially for urinary tract).
