Angelica sinensis (Dong Quai) is a plant, the root of which has been used for thousands of yeas in Traditional Chinese Medicine, providing benefits mainly to women - it reduces discomfort accompanying menstruation and menopause. For this reason, this plant is sometimes called a “female ginseng”.
Coumarin is responsible for the majority of health properties of the plant, which influences i.a. widening blood vessels (increasing blood supply of uterus and other organs) and the functioning of the nervous system (it calms down, decreases depression symptoms and mood fluctuations). Additionally, we may find in the plant such substances as phytoestrogens, beta-sitosterol or ferulic acid.
Dong Quai optimizes hormonal balance, counteracts osteoporosis, helps to regulate menstrual cycles, alleviates the symptoms of menopause and PMS, improves libido. It was also proven that it has antioxidant properties and strengthens immunity. It may also work well in case of hypertension, constipations, psoriasis, allergy attacks and anemia.
