Vitamin E is classified to fat-soluble vitamins. It occurs in the form of eight chemical compounds, called tocopherols and tocotrienols. Each of them has characteristic properties and a slightly different biological activity. It is assumed that α-tocopherol is the most important for the human body.

Vitamin E is the most important antioxidant to be found in cells. It protects cell membranes against damage caused by excess oxygen radicals and lowers the risk of oxidation of such compounds as low-density lipoproteins (so-called cholesterol LDL). It is a valuable element of prophylaxis of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular diseases. In addition, it has a direct effect on the production of white and red blood cells, determines the growth of connective tissue and controls cell division. It has a strong anti-inflammatory effect.

Vitamin E is sometimes called the vitamin of youth. In fact, it can slow down aging and reduce its visible symptoms, such as wrinkles and furrows on the skin. It is often recommended for people who have skin problems. It is used as an adjunctive treatment of acne, eczema and seborrheic dermatitis.
